石畳の階段から覗く藍色の暖簾。約50年前に建てられた館の外観はそのままに、エントランスへ掛けた特徴的な暖簾には【火・炎・ファイヤープレイス】をモチーフにした紋を載せました。かつての中山道沓掛宿に位置するこの宿で、多様な人々が焚き火を囲むように集い、そこから生まれた交流から新たな気づきを得てほしい。日本らしさや伝統を広く未来に繋ぎたい。そんな思いからくつかけステイ中軽井沢は誕生しました。
The warmth of a fire brings people together.
The indigo blue noren curtain peeks from the stone-paved stairs. While the exterior of the building remains unchanged since its construction about 50 years ago, this unique noren hanging at the entrance bears an emblem inspired by "fire, flames and fireplaces". Located in the former Nakasendo Kutsukake-shuku, this inn aims to gather a diverse range of people around a bonfire, fostering connections and sparking new insights. We aspire to connect Japanese uniqueness and traditions to the future on a broad scale. Kutsukake Stay was founded upon these principles.

ラウンジの奥には、中庭を眺めながらチェックインをしていただくカウンターがあります。お夕食時を迎えると、ゆったりとお酒を楽しむことができるカウンターバーとなりますが、感染症対策の一環として現在はご利用いただけません。
Towards the rear of the lounge is a check-in counter where guests can enjoy views of the courtyard. During dinner hours, it transforms into a bar counter. Unfortunately, it is currently unavailable as part of our infection prevention measures.

The lounge, adorned with sofas and rugs made from a variety of fabrics, serves as a gathering place for individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, facilitating connections and fostering new interactions. It showcases not only traditional Japanese dyed fabrics and textiles but also items like Gabbeh rugs and furnishings imported from Hawaii, where our sister store is located, representing a diverse tapestry of cultures. Reflecting the charm of a traditional Japanese-style residence, it embraces diversity and cultivates a unified atmosphere.

エントランスから続く土間スペースを進むと、館内から庭園に囲まれたテラス席までをフラットに繋ぐダイニングがございます。滞在中のお食事をお愉しみいただく【くつかけダイニング】です。歴史を感じさせるどっしりとした檜の柱や梁、２階へ上がる階段と吹き抜けが特徴です。過度な装飾を控え、どこか懐かしさを感じさせるダイニングでは、軽井沢らしいモダンなJAZZをBGMにしております。信州の地酒がディスプレイされたカウンター席からオープンキッチンを覗くと、活気溢れる料理人たちの手仕事をご覧いただけます。

Proceeding from the entrance through the earthen floor space ('Doma'), you'll find the dining area inside seamlessly connected to the terrace seats surrounded by the garden. This is the 'Kutsukake Dining,' where you can enjoy meals during your stay. It features solid cedar pillars and beams exuding a sense of history, a staircase leading to the second floor, and an open ceiling. In the dining area, with minimal decoration and a nostalgic atmosphere, you can enjoy modern jazz as its background music, capturing the essence of Karuizawa. From the counter seats, which display local Shinshu sake, you can observe the open kitchen and enjoy watching the lively craftsmanship of the chefs.

"くつかけ"とは
What is "Kutsukake"?
旅人が草履や馬の沓(くつ)を神にささげて旅の平穏を祈ったことに由来する「沓掛(くつかけ)」という言葉。
かつて宿場町として栄えていた中軽井沢は「中山道沓掛宿(くつかけじゅく)」と呼ばれていました。
古くから旅人たちの休息の地であったこの場所で時を重ねてきた古民家を、
伝統建築ならではの趣のある魅力を生かしつつ快適な空間にリノベーションを施しました。
２０１７年夏「沓掛」の名をつけ、今を生きる人々の休息の宿・四季彩を味わうお料理宿
「くつかけステイ 中軽井沢」として生まれ変わりました。
The word "Kutsukake" comes from the tradition where travelers offered their sandals
or horseshoes to the gods and prayed for a peaceful journey.
Naka-Karuizawa, once a flourishing post town, was known as "Nakasendo Kutsukake-juku."
An old folk house, which has accumulated time in this historic rest stop for travelers,
has been renovated into a comfortable space while preserving the unique charm of its traditional architecture.
In the summer of 2017, it was renamed 'Kutsukake' and reborn as 'Kutsukake Stay Naka-Karuizawa,'
offering a peaceful retreat and the culinary delights of all four seasons for modern travelers to enjoy.
